This fellowship is intended to provide outstanding PhD candidates with financial support to assist in the process of completing their doctoral dissertations. The fellowship consists of full support for one academic semester (either Fall 2026 or Spring 2027) and includes a monthly stipend equal to that of the current 50% GPTI salary, tuition coverage of up to five dissertation hours, mandatory fees, and coverage under the student gold health insurance plan. Students will need to advance to D status by the end of the Spring 2026 semester or will be ineligible to receive the fellowship. Please note that students may not engage in other forms of paid employment (working, teaching, or off-campus employment) during the time they receive a Dissertation Fellowship. Additionally, any hours taken by students outside their dissertation hours will not be covered, and fellows may not accept another fellowship or grant during the same period. The purpose of the fellowship is to allow recipients to devote their full attention to the dissertation. Students in the following departments may also be considered for the Carol B. Lynch Memorial Fellowship: Anthropology, Applied Mathematics, ATLAS, Astrophysical & Planetary Sciences, Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Chemistry, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Environmental Studies, Geography, Geological Sciences, Information Science, Integrative Physiology, Mathematics, Molecular Cellular & Developmental Biology, Physics, Psychology & Neuroscience, and Sociology. This fellowship was established to honor Dr. Lynch for her tireless dedication to graduate education and research at the national level and at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Dr. Carol B. Lynch was formerly Dean of the Graduate School and Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Colorado at Boulder from 1992 to 2004. She also held the rank of Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and was a Fellow of the Institute for Behavioral Genetics. During her tenure as Dean of the Graduate School and Vice Chancellor for Research, the graduate school at the University of Colorado at Boulder won major national awards in graduate education and was an invited participant in national initiatives on innovations in graduate education. In addition, sponsored research achieved record levels.
Eligibility: A doctoral student who has or will advance to D status (candidacy) by the end of this semester. The student must have a 3.5 minimum GPA and their research interests MUST be interdisciplinary in nature.
